Rules of the Science Fair
(Save tears, anguish and disappointment, read this part TWICE!!)
- The science display must show that YOU, the student, have carried out a science related study that began with a testable question. Your parents may help you; however; YOU are responsible for knowing all about your project.
- No written paragraphs downloaded from the Internet and pasted onto your display are allowed. All sources used must be given credit on the display.
- Photos downloaded from the Internet are permissable, but must be given credit.
- The science display must be NO LARGER than 3 feet wide by 2 feet deep by 6 feet high and must stand by itself.
- NO live or dead animals may be displayed. Any work with animals or human subjects will be safe for the subjects and of a HUMANE and ethical nature. Please check with your school science fair coordinator to learn if dissection projects will be allowed at the individual school science fairs. NO dangerous or poisonous chemicals, explosives, or exposed electrical wires carrying a high voltage current may be displayed.
- Adult help in the group category is limited only to giving advice in preparing the display or assisting in conducting the research. The majority of the work must be that of the students.
- All experiments done by students in grade 4 and above must be repeated more than 3 times. All references and sources used must be given written credit on the project.
- No animal or vegetable matter of any kind is displayed on projects entered in the Alaska Science and Technology Fair in Anchorage. If your child plans to enter this event, please remove all animal and vegetable matter, including petri dishes, and replace them with photographs.
