Make Your Display
How to Make the Best of Your Display
Make
sure the backboard can stand by itself, unsupported. One way to do this is
to make a three-fold backboard. Consider making it out of heavy cardboard
or masonite that you can reuse each year.
To decorate your display, use colored construction paper, colored markers, and write or type captions in ink. Avoid lightweight papers like binder paper that can wrinkle when glued and be seen through. If you need materials, check with your teacher, or the school office. We might have what you need to make your display exciting!
Color is important: don't use more than two or three colors. Avoid pastels and light colors on white backgrounds. Bright colors on dark background look especially nice and draw attention to your project.
All words on your display should be easily read at a distance. Print in letters (like this). You may want to use letter stencils or press-on lettering available at most stores. You might want to have different size lettering for your title, headings, sub-headings and captions. You may also word-process your project if you are good at using a computer. If you parent helps type your project, be sure to give them credit for it.
Use pictures, photographs, graphs, illustrations and diagrams to interest the people looking at your display. Vary the sizes of the pictures to produce an interesting lay-out. Be careful not to crowd your display with too much--involve blank spaces as margins.
If you need an electrical outlet as part of your display, please bring your own extension cord to use.
Please be sure not to display valuable or fragile objects. We cannot guarantee their safety. Do not display any live or dead animals, OR petri dishes, in your display.
